Craftsman House Plans

Craftsman Bungalows and Craftsman House Plans have an interesting background steeped in the philosophical and political movements of the early 20th Century. This design style formed as a reaction and counterpoint to the popular but fading Victorian style which favored large structures with highly ornate design elements. Similar to the “eat local” ethos currently sweeping restaurants across the U.S., proponents of the craftsman style embraced the idea of utilizing local materials and local craftsmen to construct homes. As part of the larger Arts and Crafts movement of the early 1900’s, architects and designers sought to create simple but well-designed and constructed homes affordable to the middle class. A sort of thumbing of the nose at the social elite of the day.  And a boon for those of us who love this distinctive style of home.
